INTERSTING INFO: From the 1959 Schreiner's Iris Lover's Catalog: Some of our most valuable plants are those which defy classicfication, like the great Douglas Fir of the Pacific Northwest. Here in the realm of flowers is a parallel illustration - an Iris which is neither a yellow nor a yellow blend. Derived from a sister of Golden Sunshine, that outstanding garden yellow, crossed with Inca Chief, progenitor of so many great yellow blends, Gold Piece inherits the vivid yellow color of the Golden Sunshine line plus the leathery texture and opaque substance characteristic of the yellow blends. As a result of losing no light because of the translucency typical of of the yellows but seemingly reflecting it all back, it becomes the most vivid of yellows- a yellow with a texture of a yellow blend. It is definitely in a class by itself. Gold Piece is a brilliant foreground Iris of special interest for hybridizers.
